Southill Primary School

"A caring, family school"

Years 3 and 4

Welcome to Swifts Class.

Hello and welcome to Swifts!  Our teachers are Mrs Read and Mrs Hoster and our teaching assistants are Mrs Buttigieg and Mrs Huckerby.  Our classroom is bright, well-resourced and learning is always fun!  We have a designated ‘Reading Jungle’ and a wonderful outdoor space, which is attached to our classroom.  We use this to extend our learning, particularly in the spring and summer terms.

We enjoy English and Maths every day.  Most of our subjects are taught through an exciting thematic approach.  This year our topics are: ‘Groovy Greeks’, ‘European Explorers’, ‘Rotten Romans’, ‘Cracking Coasts’, Smashing Saxons’ and ‘Smart Settlements’.

Some of our subjects are taught by specialist staff including, Music, French, Art and Design Technology and PE.  We have two weekly PE lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays so please make sure the children come to school dressed in their PE kit on these days.

Our homework consists of weekly spellings, Maths Whizz and TTRockstars (by the end of Year 4 all learners are expected to know their times tables up to 12 x 12).  We are also encouraged to read with an adult at least four times a week at home.

Below you will find some planning documents so that you can see what we will be taught and our ‘Spelling Booklet’ for the current term so that you can support us at home.

As Year 4s, we take on lots of exciting roles of responsibility through our monitor jobs. We all get chance to be Sociable Swifts, helping others on the playground in a variety of way.

We have  PE at least once during the week. Please ensure kit is in school at all times as sometimes we do extra PE sessions and participate in sports festivals.

Our timetable and yearly plan are below:
